The AIPSN was engaged in one major communication and mobilisation exercises called Hamara Desh (Our Country) in between 15 August, 1993 and 28 February, 1994. The programme focused on encouraging local capability building for self-reliance with a campaign for national unity and advance that brought out and developed constructive social vigour for putting up a united, self-reliant India.
This campaign was conducted through diverse activities. There were Bal Melas or children festivals that brought together children and teachers from different places and spheres to share their experiences, live in other’s home etc. Thousands of such festivals were organised in different parts of the country.
Mass Contact Programmes (Lok Sampark Andolan) were held at the block, district, state levels to initiate talks and discussion among people on basic issues and problem facing them. As a massive people’s education curriculum, the volunteers and neo-literates of the TLCs took part earnestly in them. People’s parliaments (Jansansads) also took place across the country.
Relay Cycle Yatras had thousands of cyclists covering length and breadth of the country with the message of unity and progress. Starting 1st January, 1994 from 14 corners of the country, the final batch of over 2,000 relay cyclists converged at Hyderabad on 27th February, 1994.
The whole programme acted as an extremely useful effort towards national integration. It was successful and interesting to the participants. They also involved in discussions on remedial steps required to perk up the collective approach to solve the problems. |
