The main objective of this program is to provide details and accurate information about the universe to get accustomed about the scientific notions of the celestial phenomenon so that people's perception about all the myths and ominous aspects associated with solar eclipse could be weakened. The programme started with eight regional resource persons’ camps at eight different parts of the country, state level resource camps in all states, national and regional level rehearsals. Two environment building Kala Jathas were conducted between September 16 and October 10 in 1995. The first Jatha started from Diamond Harbour and performed at 67 places in West Bengal, Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh while the second Jatha took of from Bikaner and covered 69 places in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and central Uttar Pradesh. Both of them converged on 10-11 October, 1995 for the Cosmic Voyage Mela at Allahabad. Many related books, brochures and booklets were brought out around that time. Melas were organised at 30 points around the eclipse day on the line of totality. Arrangements were made for safe watching of solar eclipse at those points with the distribution of more than 50,000 safety filters. Through this programme people got an opportunity to be exposed to the exchange of ideas that threw new lights on the phenomenon but obviously in a scientific manner and was able to create and give people the right atmosphere to enjoy and study the rare phenomenon. There were discussions and actual observation with prescribed protective gears through-out eclipse belt. |
