PROGRAM
| Jan Vachan Andolan |
|
Jan Vachan Andolan, a countrywide people’s reading campaign. The aim is to first create and spread the culture of book reading in our villages and then to initiate a massive village library movement, leading to the formation of Janvachanalayas.
BGVS is India’s largest Science publisher, having published more than thousand booklet and other publications. To tackle a basic problem of non-availability of good low-priced books, BGVS is making available in every village, books written by eminent writers from all over the world, in an easy style and in Hindi and other Regional Languages, at prices affordable by the villagers. These books have been sold in hundreds of thousands all over the country. The idea is also to help the new readers, the neo-literates to improve upon the reading skill, which they have acquired through the literacy programs.
The underlying belief is that ’Literacy does not merely mean knowing the word, but knowing the world’. Under this programs, BGVS has published more than 300 titles covering a wide range of subject. These books address the need of all age groups in rural and urban areas. The sale of books through BGVS activists in villages, district headquarters, small and large towns is a major agenda of campaign.
