Dear Friends,

As we all are well aware of the worst conditions of 7 districts of North Bihar, due to the flood in Koshi River. This catastrophe has created massive loss of lives, displaced millions of people, damage standing crops, total destruction of food stocks/houses, and much more in the most affected areas Madhepura, Saharsa and Supaul. The situation is very adverse. Thousands of people are there in villages due to insufficiencies of transportation. They are staying on the roofs of their houses, waiting for boats and other means of rescue sources.

Bharat Gyan Vigyan Samiti (BGVS) Bihar, activists are actively working in these districts from the very first day, by mobilizing food and other resources from the near by community sources.

We have set up 3 relief camps in Saharsa District. The condition of the affected people continues to be extremely distressing.

The immediate need is to rescue people otherwise their lives will be lost. After assessing the needs of the people and our organizational strength, BGVS has decided the following programmes:-

i. To run 7 camps in 11 Blocks of 3 Districts Saharsa, Madhepura & Supaul. To provide immediate relief by providing food, cloths, water. Also health & sanitation facilities will be provided in the camps. Different activities as children, women, Janvachan, video shows, literacy classes will be conducted in the camps during the two months period.

An office has been set up in Saharsa for coordination of all the field areas.

ii. To provide some of the displaced flood affected family, a temporary house for 3 – 6 month with another family in other Districts of Bihar. If necessary by getting the support from the Govt. or other Agencies.

iii. To provide Boat & Boat driver from Darbhanga to Madhepura.

iv. To do some activities in the Panchayat where we are running some camps in all the Districts.

And to do the above programs a maximum of support will be required to us. So, I would like to request you to mobilize the District Units, other organization and friends to support to the people of North Bihar.

2. Food Grains and Baby Food.

3. Cloths for children, women and men, also winter cloths (sweater, shawl, blankets and bedsheets) they are in need please respect their feelings; don’t collect the Phatta – Purana material.
