11th ALL INDIA PEOPLE’S SCIENCE CONGRESS, Guwahati, Assam

11th All India People’s Science Congress (AIPSC) was held from 2nd February to 5th February, 2006 at Srimanta Shankardev Kalakhetra(SSK), Guwahati, Assam.

11th All India People’s Science Congress was jointly hold by Assam Science Society and Gyan Vigyan Samiti Assam. It was supported by NCSTC, New Delhi. 11th AIPSC was inaugurated by Prof. M. Vijayan formerly with Indian Institute of Science and Prof. Kulendu Pathak, Vice Chancellor, Dibrugrah University had grace the occasion as Chief Guest.

The central theme of the congress this year was Convergence of Literacy, Continuing Education, Life Long Education, Rural Health, Basic Education, Local Area Development and Gender Empowerment, Gyan Vigyan Vidhalaya, neighbourhood / Self-Help Group (SHG), Rural Health Sanitation, Drinking Water, Employment Generation, Agro Processing, Water Management, Skill Upgradation,Access to health care and medicines, Science Communication, War & Peace, Special lecture on Globalization & WTO, Institution building, participation, Gram Sabha, etc with special reference to the North Eastern states.

About 600 delegates around the country had participated in the four day long 11th AIPSC conference, Assam. Many prominent speakers like Dr. M. P. Parmeswaran, K. K. Krishna Kumar, Anita Kaul, Vivek Monteiro, Vinod Raina, Amitava Guha, Amit Sengupta, Anita Rampal, C.P. Narayanan, Shakti Kak, Sarojini, etc were present in 11th AIPSC.

The workshop theme of this year 11th AIPSC was:

- Science Publications
- Strengthening Processes of Technology, Dissemination in Rural Areas
- Environment Awareness & Community Actions
- Natural Resource Management and Sustainable Livelihood Options
- IT for Science & Technology Communication
- Science & Technology Communication for Women’s Empowerment
- The challenge posed in Information Technology
- The Role of Biotechnology in India

In four day long conference future plans were mapout.
