Watershed Development Programme
2004 by BGVS
Beginning from 1995, work is being undertaken in about 20-25 clusters of villages each year (for a period of three years), spread across the states, with the involvement of the PSMs. The programme is aimed to achieve conservation and development of watershed to improve its ecological well-being and thereby enhance its productivity and life-supporting system for the betterment of the people and their environment through the people’s participatory method.
In the field of NFE/UEE, considering the importance of life-supporting education for children, BGVS has undertaken a project under the title of "Non Formal Education of a different type" or Jeevanshala. Wyra block in Khammam district (Andhra Pradesh) and Samhalkha block in Haryana have been identified to take up the initial experiment under this project, while the other states complete their survey data (and project proposals). This is also linked with the efforts towards universalisation of elementary education, where the main problem is the meaninglessness of education, the unenjoyable teaching process leading to school dropouts. The aim is to increase enrolment, stop dropouts, improve achievements, and make education meaningful.
