SAMATA Eastern Region Training

The first SAMATA Eastern Region Training was held from 10th April to 19th April 2005 at Dhanbad in Jharkhand. This was the first training held by the SAMATA women since the SAMATA brainstorming which was held in the month of January 2005. During the brainstorming it had been decided that in 2005 it was necessary to hold as many women workshops as possible in order for these women to empower themselves.

Women from Assam, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Orissa participated in this Eastern Region training. Women were more enthusiastic to learn new things in this workshop and worked hard. In doing so they built up confidence and self-esteem through cooperation and teamwork.The focus of the workshops was on microcredit initiatives, women’s health, natural resource management and the role of women in science.

In this workshop many other organisational resource persons like Ms. N.B. Sarojini and Anju from Sama, Mr. Arvind Ranadey from Vigyan Prasar, Dr. Archna Prasad, Dr. Ajay Khare, Ms. Sumitra Ghosh and Ms. Sveta contributed to the skill building process of the workshop.

Women from every state shared their perspectives from their own state situations and sharing insights on how performance has improved in the field. Through sharing of experiences these women have learned valuable techniques and skills from each other.

The SAMATA Northern Regional Training will be held on 8th to 15th of June 2005 in Dehra Dun, Uttaranchal. Participant states are Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttaranchal and Uttar Pradesh.
